According to various evidence and Our National Blood Institute, mosquitoes are mostly attracted to type O blood type, based on studies done in 2004 and 2019.

The studies found that mosquitoes feed on and land on people with O-positive or O-negative blood more often than on people with other blood types.

The same study found that they are generally not as attracted to those with type A blood. However, mosquitoes are attracted to more than just blood type, such as:

  • body odor
  • sweat body
  • heat
  • pregnancy
  • your breath
  • dark color clothing

There are various ways to protect yourself from mosquitoes, including:

  • use a strong insect repellent with active EPA-registered ingredients such as DEET, which is suitable for pregnant and nursing people
  • dress yourself, children, and babies in long-sleeved clothing and long pants, covering arms and legs
  • use screens on windows and doors
  • remove all containers in and around the house that contain still water, such as buckets in the garden, bird baths, toys, or pools
